About seven years ago, after suffering from a severe fever and chickenpox, I faced a serious illness: Tuberculous Meningitis (TBM) with bilateral optic neuritis. When I finally regained consciousness after 15 days in the ICU, nothing was left for me but eternal darkness. At that time, doctors declared that the optic nerves in both eyes were damaged and that I “would never be able to see again.” I was officially diagnosed with 100% permanent blindness by the government of India. Modern medicine could do nothing. We spent everything we had—even selling our gold jewelry—visiting famous hospitals and eye specialists, and even seeking out astrologers, but our despair only deepened. I could not even go to the bathroom by myself and had to rely completely on my family.
However, what broke my heart even more than my physical illness was something else. Above all, not being able to see the faces of my growing children with my own eyes, and not being able to cook delicious meals for them as a mother, caused me agonizing pain. The guilt and sorrow of being blind, unable to watch my children grow or fulfill my role as a mother, completely shattered my heart.
When there was no hope left through human methods or medicine, the love of the Lord reached our family through my daughter and mother-in-law. At first, I resisted, but the Lord gradually touched my heart, and I received the blessing of connecting through mbstudy.com. Receiving continuous loving encouragement and prayers, although my body was weak, I was deeply blessed to study the Word and grow spiritually through the website. I also faithfully participated in weekly Zoom meetings to attend Sunday worship and joined every time of prayer. Instead of tears, an indescribable joy and courage welled up inside me.
Though doctors branded me as “incapable of ever seeing again,” the Lord has been performing marvelous miracles in my eyes day by day. By His grace, my condition has improved even more, and now I can look straight ahead and see things clearly and wonderfully! I can vividly distinguish colors, and I am able to read words and calendar dates on my own. Furthermore, I achieved complete independence in my daily life. In the past, I needed someone else’s help just to wear a saree, but now I can dress myself, prepare my own meals, and climb the terrace stairs all by myself.
Above all, the things I could not do before, I can now do to my heart’s content. I can cook meals and feed my children delicious food with my own hands, and now I can look brightly into the lovely faces of my children with my two eyes and praise the Lord’s grace. Not only me, but my husband, mother-in-law, and children—our entire family has become a blessed household enjoying the grace of salvation together.
As the Word says, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” When medicine offered no hope of recovery, the Lord shone the light of life into my darkness and restored me. With overflowing joy and gratitude, I praise the Lord. I desire to turn away from a worldly life, live according to His Word, remain in His love, and serve others. I give all thanks and glory to God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who restored my life and gave me new hope. Hallelujah!
