Chapter 1- The Creator God
We learn the difference between creation and evolution. We believe in the Creator God and understand His love and providence in making the heavens and the earth.
Reading Verse: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, NASB)
Memory Verse: “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living person.” (Genesis 2:7, NASB)
Reference Verse: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20, NASB)
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, NASB)
If children learn from an early age that the Lord God is alive, that He is the Creator, and that He is almighty, and also learn the Bible as His Word, then it is not hard to know the truth and believe in the Creator God.
Today, many people are influenced by the theory of evolution in schools. But in the Bible, the best-selling book in the world, the creation work of God is written clearly. In Genesis 1, it says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” The chapter explains how the Creator God made the earth, the universe, and all people.
1. The Lord God created the heavens and the earth
Creation means that the Lord God Himself designed and made the universe. Because of this, human beings must live with hope in the Kingdom of Heaven, following God’s will. This is called God-centered faith.
But evolution says that life came by chance, from non-living things, and changed from lower to higher, from one kind to another. So they even insist that human beings came from apes.
Those who believe in evolution do not accept the Creator. They think only of man, not of God. So their life is human-centered. They worry about what to eat or what to wear. They live only to enjoy life. But they do not find true peace or joy. At the end, their bodies return to dust, and their souls fall into Hell. Their life is empty and without meaning.
Every object in this world has a maker. From a toy to an airplane, all things were designed and made by someone. They did not come by accident. In the same way, the heavens and the earth were not made by chance. They were designed and created by the Creator God, with a clear plan.
Genesis 1:3 and the verses that follow show that God made the world by His Word. “By faith we understand that the world has been created by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things that are visible.” (Hebrews 11:3, NASB)
The proof of the Creator is not only in the Bible but also in the universe itself. The earth turns on its axis, revolves around the sun, and the seasons come and go in order. The sea has tides, and the wind and clouds move in balance. How can this be chance? It is God’s providence.
Look also at animals, birds, and fish. They all have two eyes, one nose, one mouth, two ears, and the same positions on the body. This shows there is one Creator.
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20, NASB)
Anyone who opens their heart and looks at the world can feel the Creator’s power and divine nature. The Lord God has made it clear so no one can say, “I did not know the Creator God.” Even today, He shows His works by the Holy Spirit.
2. The Lord God made the first man Adam a living person
The Creator God made Adam in His own image. Then He blessed him, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the sky and every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:27–28, NASB)
How did He make man? “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living person.” (Genesis 2:7, NASB)
Dust means clay. A skilled potter uses clay to make a bowl or pottery that can be worth much money. Some clay is used only for cheap bricks. The value depends on who makes it.
In the same way, the almighty God used clay to make man in His own image. Then He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. The man became a living person, full of glory.
The “breath of life” means the basic power of God. This can be understood like a lamp or a screen. A lamp does not shine unless it is connected to power. A screen shows nothing unless it is connected to power. But when electricity flows, the lamp shines, and the screen shows pictures.
In the same way, when God breathed into the man, blood began to flow, the heart began to beat, and the man began to live.
God also made memory cells in the brain. When we see, hear, or feel something, it is stored there as knowledge. To recall it is thought. To use knowledge wisely is wisdom.
If humans can make computers that can recognize letters and voices, then how much more can the Creator God form man out of clay and breathe life into him! For God, who can create from nothing, this is simple. But for man, it is amazing and too deep to understand (Psalm 139:14).
3. The Lord God taught man to live as the ruler of creation
After making Adam, God prepared the Garden of Eden and put him there to keep it and rule over it (Genesis 2:8–15).
When a baby is born, it knows only natural body functions. It must grow and learn from parents and teachers. Adam too, though he looked like an adult, was like a baby with no knowledge.
So God taught Adam everything he needed. He taught him about the balance of nature, the laws of the spiritual world, and the Word of truth. Like a parent saying, “This food is safe but that food is not safe,” God told Adam, “You may eat from any tree, but not from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
But Adam did not keep this command. After a long time, he ate from the tree. As a result, “the wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23, NASB) His spirit, which was the master of his being, died. He fell into sin and could no longer be with God.
The Lord God knew this would happen. Yet He made man to grow through free will. He wanted children who would obey Him freely and share His love forever. Even now, He teaches, blesses, and waits for all people to be saved. May we understand His love and live in obedience by free choice.

What is “the breath of life”?
It is the basic power of God that gives life. When God breathed the breath of life into Adam, it entered the most central cell, and man began to move and live. He became a living spiritual being.
But when Adam sinned in the Garden, his spirit died. He could no longer live in the spiritual world of Eden.
