Leaving God through sin is much like the story of the Prodigal Son. He took his inheritance and left for a distant country, only to squander everything he had. This reflects our own lives when we so easily forget the precious grace of Jesus Christ we have received, returning to the world to indulge in eating, drinking, and the fleeting pleasures of the flesh. We cast aside His grace to follow the temptations of the world, but that path leads only to a spiritual dead end.
The reality the son faced without his father was miserable. He found himself starving, longing even for the food given to pigs. Life lived apart from God, reaping the harvest of sin, leads only to spiritual darkness and suffering. As mentioned before, the illnesses, financial struggles, or constant obstacles we face can be clear signs that we are living in the “distant country,” away from our Father’s house.
In the depths of his despair, the son realized, “How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare!” He decided to deny himself and cast aside his pride. He returned to his father, confessing, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.”
This is exactly what we need: to abandon our pride and stand before God with humility. While the son was still far off, the father saw him, ran to him, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. The son only asked to be a servant, but the father dressed him in the finest robe and put a ring on his finger, rejoicing, “For this son of mine was dead and is alive again!”
Though the consequences of sin are heavy, God welcomes us back as His children the moment we return with a humble heart. If you are facing hardships today, know that it is not to judge you, but a loving call to bring you back home. Stop seeking satisfaction in the worldly pleasures of eating and drinking; instead, cast away your pride, rely solely on the blood of Jesus, and return to the Father’s embrace. There, you will find true peace and restoration.

For the past few days, I felt as if I was drifting into the ways of the world, and I was unable to repent. But today I repented and prayed, asking the Lord to give me His Word. The Lord gave me this message, and when I read and understood it, I realized that I had gone into the world like the prodigal son. But when I repented today, the Lord forgave me and embraced me again, making me His daughter once more. The Lord always waits for us with patience, and we too should show patience toward others.
