Is Your Heart in Tune?

Before playing a musical instrument, you must tune it so that it produces the correct notes. In an orchestra, the oboe usually plays a standard tuning note, and the other instruments adjust their sounds to match it. The important thing is not to tune an instrument to what sounds good to me, but to match the standard note. No matter how good a sound may seem to me, if it does not match the standard note, it cannot create beautiful harmony. Even the most skillful performance will sound unpleasant.

Our hearts are the same. We want to achieve what we desire and live according to our own feelings and emotions. At times, our hearts are filled with anger, hatred, jealousy, fear, and negative thoughts. We may even believe that our own judgments are always right. However, tuning our hearts means surrendering our own emotions and desires, letting go of sinful thoughts, and aligning our minds and plans with the Word of God. It is not about following what we think is right, but following what God says is right. It is not about living the way we want, but living the way God wants us to live. This is how we must tune our hearts. As our thoughts become aligned with God’s Word, our lives will also come into harmony with Him.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
