Have you decided what you want to do in the future? Some people have a clear career goal, while others struggle because they do not know what they are good at or what kind of job they should choose. Some may even feel anxious because others seem to be preparing for their future while they are falling behind. So how should we prepare for our future?
1. The Most Important Goal in Life
The ultimate goal of our lives is not to enter a prestigious university or earn a lot of money. It is to become children of God who reflect the character of the Lord and grow in holiness. Ephesians 5:1 teaches us to imitate God. We must rid our hearts of evil, cultivate goodness and love, and live according to God’s Word.
We also need jobs to live in this world. We need to earn money for our daily needs and take responsibility for ourselves and our families. So what kind of job should we choose?
2. Must We Find a Job That Matches Our Talents?
People often tell us to choose work that we enjoy or that matches our natural abilities. Of course, it would be wonderful to discover our talents at an early age, develop them, and turn them into a career. Yet many people do not know exactly what their talents are.
Furthermore, enjoying something is different from being able to make a living from it. Can everyone who enjoys playing video games become a professional gamer? Can everyone who enjoys singing become a professional singer? Enjoyment alone is not enough. We must develop the necessary skills and be able to earn enough money to support ourselves.
In reality, many people choose jobs based on salary and job security rather than personal interests or natural talents. Also, many jobs do not require us to be skilled from the beginning. We can become competent by learning and gaining experience. So while discovering our talents is important, making an effort to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills is just as important.
3. Why Should Students Study Hard?
Simply wanting a particular job does not mean we can have it. If we want to become doctors, we must study medicine and obtain the necessary qualifications. If we want to become soldiers, we must develop the knowledge, physical fitness, and abilities required for that profession. Every profession has its own requirements. That is why students need to study and prepare for their future.
Studying is a process of gaining knowledge and developing thinking skills. It also teaches us how to manage our time, solve difficult problems, and develop patience and self-discipline. These abilities will also help us in our future working lives.
Even when we study hard, we may not achieve good grades. Some people may be unable to continue their education because of financial difficulties or family circumstances. But this does not mean their lives are failures. They can look for schools that are accessible to them, learn practical skills, or work while preparing for new opportunities. What matters is not losing hope in difficult circumstances and doing our best with the opportunities we have today.
4. God Will Guide Our Path
No matter how hard we work, things do not always happen according to our plans. Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.”
We should make plans for our future and prepare ourselves. Still, we do not need to lose heart when things do not go as planned. God knows our circumstances, our abilities, and our hearts.
Do not waste today worrying about tomorrow. Do not give up or become discouraged before you even begin. If you are a student, do your best in your studies. If you are working, faithfully fulfill your responsibilities. Above all, rid your heart of evil and become more like the Lord by cultivating goodness and love. Even while studying, you should be honest, avoid jealousy, and never harm others for your own benefit.
Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Even if you do not yet know what kind of job you will have in the future, do not be afraid. Do your best in what has been entrusted to you today, and strive to make your heart more like the Lord’s. If you trust God and continue to do good, He will guide your steps. His path may be different from the one you originally wanted, but God has promised a good harvest to those who persevere in doing good.
